Comparison

SecureSMTP vs Amazon SES

Amazon SES is the cheapest way to send email at scale — if you have an engineering team. SecureSMTP costs more per email but ships with the pieces SES doesn’t: a UI, WordPress plugin, form builder, spam filter, and support that isn’t a paid AWS tier.

SS
SecureSMTP
Platform plugin + relay

Managed relay + WordPress plugin + form builder + delivery dashboard. Flat monthly pricing, human support, no AWS account required. You never touch IAM.

vs
SES
Amazon SES
AWS · low-cost email API

Pay-per-email at $0.10 per 1,000. Runs on AWS. Requires IAM setup, DNS configuration, SES sandbox exit, and a wrapper for every integration. Zero UI beyond CloudWatch.

TL;DR

SES wins on raw cost. Everything else — setup effort, ongoing operational load, WordPress integration, support — is a project you own yourself.

SecureSMTP costs more per email but delivers a working system in minutes, not days. If your time is worth more than a few dollars an hour, we’re cheaper.

Pick SecureSMTP when

  • You want a working system today, not a project
  • You run WordPress and need a plugin, not an SDK integration
  • You need a dashboard for non-technical stakeholders
  • You value support that responds in hours, not days

Pick Amazon SES when

  • You send 500k+ emails/month and cost is dominant
  • You already run on AWS and have IAM/CloudWatch expertise
  • You’re building a custom mail platform from primitives
  • You need EC2/Lambda integration for the send path

Pricing at a glance

SES: $0.10 per 1,000 emails (10× cheaper per email). SecureSMTP: $19/mo flat for 250k. Break-even is around 190k emails/month — above that SES saves you real money, below it your engineering time on SES setup costs more than the entire SecureSMTP subscription.

FAQ

Is SecureSMTP just a wrapper around SES?+
No. We run our own relay on Resend infrastructure. Some competitors do wrap SES; we don’t, so IP reputation and sending policy are ours to manage.
Can I use SES with SecureSMTP?+
You can’t plug SES into SecureSMTP directly. If you want SES’s pricing with our WordPress plugin, self-host the plugin and configure it with SES SMTP credentials — you’ll lose our dashboard and spam filtering, but the wp_mail() routing works.
What about deliverability differences?+
SES and SecureSMTP both have strong reputations. Deliverability variance comes from your DNS setup and sending patterns, not the provider. For WordPress lead forms, both land in the inbox when DKIM/SPF is aligned.
Why not just use SES then?+
Setup: SES sandbox exit takes 24–48 hours. IAM key rotation is an engineering task. Bounce/complaint handling requires you to subscribe to SNS topics and process them. If you have an engineering team and volume, do it. If not, the "cheaper" price hides real costs.
